February 14, 2011 NEW YORK,-- One of the world's most influential and beloved jazz pianists and composers, Sir George Shearing, died shortly after 1:00 a.m. the morning of February 14 of cardiac arrest. Shearing was knighted by Queen Elizabeth in June 2007. A popular recording artist and concert performer, Shearing composed over 300 songs including the jazz standard, "Lullaby of Birdland".
